With plenty of new additions – including Superman himself – having already been brought in for Supergirl’s second season, the Melissa Benoist-starrer has now brought in one of the Man of Steel’s most infamous villains.

EW is reporting that the series has brought in Frederick Schmidt, best known for various short films, as John Corben, aka Metallo. The description of the show’s version of this longtime Superman rogue reads: “When international assassin John Corben is badly injured after taking on both Supergirl and Superman, he is reborn by a shadow organisation into the Kryptonite-powered supervillain Metallo.”

In the comic book realm, Metallo debuted way, way back in 1959’s Action Comics #252. His powers and abilities have changed slightly over the decades, but his Kryptonite-infused attacks have left Superman in quite the pickle at various times since the rogue first debuted. Additionally, the character has also previously appeared in live-action, played by Michael Callan in Superboy, by Scott Valentine in Lois & Clark, and most famously by Brian Austin Green in Smallville. In Supergirl, the villain will appear in at least two episodes of the upcoming second season.

The current blurb on Season 2 of the Maid of Might show reads:

Kara has left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant in order to figure out what she really wants to do, while as Supergirl she continues to work at the DEO, protecting the citizens of National City and searching for Jeremiah and Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) to battle new villains, as she strives to balance her personal life with her life as a superhero.

Supergirl returns on October 10th.
