With Hulu currently adapting Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s Locke & Key for the small screen, the series has managed to find one of its key figures.

As per The Hollywood reporter, A.I. Artificial Intelligence and The Conjuring 2’s Frances O’Connor has landed the lead role of Nina Locke, the matriarch of the Locke family at the centre of the story.

On this news, executive producer David Ozer enthused, “We are thrilled to have the multidimensional talents of Frances O’Connor to breathe colour and life into this pivotal character in our series, and along with a stellar production team in place, we have no doubt that we will be able to bring Joe Hill’s creative vision to the small screen.”

The early word on the series reads:

Locke & Key tells the story of the Locke family and their journey into Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them, and home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all!

Initially, the rights for Locke & Key were picked up by Dimension Films back in 2008, and then 2010 saw FOX develop a TV series. Sadly, neither of these times saw anything fully come to be where an adaptation was concerned, but now we’re finally getting to see Locke & Key brought to life on the small screen. Lost and The Strain’s Carlton Cuse is on board to serve as showrunner for the series.
