CBS’ Supergirl has made no bones about pulling from the past when it comes to making casting decisions. After all, this is a show that has already featured former Superman Dean Cain and former Supergirl Helen Slater. And now comes word that another former Supergirl is joining the show.

The network has announced that Laura Vandervoort, best known to genre fans for playing the Maid of Might in Smallville, has signed on to appear in Supergirl, as has The Young and the Restless’ Jeff Branson. Both will be paying characters pulled from the DC comic book realm. Vandervoort has landed the recurring role of Indigo, described as “a living, strong-willed supercomputer that was sentenced to Fort Rozz after turning against the people of Krypton. Now on Earth, Indigo will let nothing stand in her way.” As for Branson, he has nabbed the recurring role of Master Jailer, with the official description for his character reading “As the forceful and unrelenting jail guard on Fort Rozz, Master Jailer showed no mercy. Now on Earth, he is hellbent on catching all of the Fort Rozz escapees and brutally bringing them to justice.”

In some additional news, CBS also revealed that an upcoming episode of Supergirl will pull inspiration from Alan Moore’s classic Superman arc For the Man Who Has Everything. In that tale, the Man of Steel lives in a dream-like state where Krypton didn’t blow up and he gets to live out his life on his home world. The thirteenth episode of Supergirl will be titled For the Girl Who Has Everything and will feature a similar tale centred on Melissa Benoist’s Kara.

Supergirl returned to US screens last week, with the show’s mid-season premiere expected to air in March on Sky1 in the UK.
