As last night saw THE WALKING DEAD head to its mid-season break (our review can be found here), today brings word on the first two names to be added to the walker-heavy show’s upcoming companion series.

Deadline is reporting that Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam-Carey have been cast in the spin-off companion show. Dillane is best known for HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE, whilst Debnam-Carey appeared in INTO THE STORM. It’s believed that Dillane will be playing the former drug-addicted son of a guidance counsellor, with Debnam-Carey believed to be playing his ambitious sister.

On the new show itself, limited information is out there at this stage. All we know is that the new series is being constantly referred to as a “companion series” to the main WALKING DEAD show, with it currently being called COBALT in some circles. The action will take place in the same gone-to-shit world that AMC’s record-breaking WALKING DEAD is set in, although it will focus on a different location and may even possibly be set at a different point in time to the escapades of Rick Grimes et al.

With this first piece of casting news having now been revealed, expect to be hearing a lot more on this companion series over the next few weeks and months.
