With a new take on The Mummy currently shooting, we’ve been given our first look at the new version of the titular monster.

Sofia Boutella, best known for Kingsman: The Secret Service and the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, is playing the monster, and the images come courtesy of ComingSoon. These snaps are from some shooting that took place in London over this past weekend.

The official synopsis on this new incarnation of an old favourite reads:

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

As for those pictures, a whole bunch were snapped over the weekend, but here’s the best ones:

In addition to Boutella’s Mummy, the film will also star Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, and Courtney B. Vance. On top of that, there’s some strong reports that claim Russell Crowe is in talks to play Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde in the movie.

To be directed by Alex Kurtzman, The Mummy is currently set for a June 9th, 2017 release and will be the first in Universal Pictures relaunch of their shared monster movie universe.
