Preparations for the 2017 STARBURST International Film Festival (SIFF) are gaining pace as we are pleased to announce our first batch of independent movies and shorts that will be screened over the weekend.

The first full features confirmed are Gothic fantasy The Gatehouse, written and directed by Martin Gooch and featuring Linal Haft (Farscape, EastEnders) and Paul Freeman (Raiders of the Lost Ark) and the retro-style anthology The House of Screaming Death, with Ian McNeice who links the four creepy tales.

Short films will play a large part of the event again this year, and we’re pleased to announce that we will be screening Search/Destroy: A Strontium Dog Fan Film, Stephen Green’s adaptation of the popular 2000 AD comic strip, Connie, directed by Cat Davies and produced by James Moran (who are currently deep in the edit of their latest short Blood Shed) and starring Catrin Stewart (best known as Jenny, one of the Paternoster Gang in Doctor Who, Peter Mckeirnon’s Swings and Roundabouts, Doll, directed by Australian student filmmaker Jia He, and David Gilbank’s Working Late. Filmmakers can submit their features and shorts for consideration to the STARBURST International Film Festival at FilmFreeway, and everything selected is entered into the STARBURST Fantasy Awards, where we recognise the best independent work shown over the weekend.
