In a day full of TV-related news, The CW’s upcoming DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has brought in a new cast member.

TVLine is reporting that Jewel Staite will be joining the Arrow and Flash spin-off series, playing the role of Rachel Turner. Staite will be well-known to genre fans for her turns in Firefly and Stargate Atlantis. As for Rachel Turner, she’s described as “a tech genius/roboticist who exists in a future in which technology has an even firmer grip on our lives than it does today.” The character will be full of good intentions, although it’s believed that her work is destined to fall into the no-good hands of nefarious uber-rogue Vandal Savage.

Additionally, it’s being suggested that Rachel Turner could actually be the descendant of an already-existing DC character. Given how the character is described as a tech genius and inventor, it could well be that she’ll be related to Brandon Routh’s Ray Palmer/The Atom or maybe even Emily Bett Rickards’ Felicity Smoak.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow features Arthur Darvill’s Rip Hunter bringing together a ragtag team to tackle the time-travelling immortal Vandal Savage. Hunter assembles a squad made up of Routh’s Atom, Caity Lotz’s White Canary, Ciara Renee’s Hawkgirl, Falk Hentschel’s Hawkman, Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold, Dominic Purcell’s Heat Wave, and Victor Garber and Franz Drameh’s Firestorm.

The show is set to debut in the US on January 21st, with a UK premiere date yet to be confirmed, although the series will be airing on Sky1 when it does air over here.
