If there’s one thing that unites the disparate threads of geekdom, it’s Joss Whedon’s space western FIREFLY. Cancelled well before its time, the show has gone on to redefine cult status and prove just how much power is in the hands of the fans.

While a reunion is yet (if ever) to happen, FIREFLY ONLINE is the next best thing and they’ve even bagged one of the original show’s stars. Jewel Staite, who portrayed quirky mechanic Kaylee, has revealed via Twitter that she’s “recording a wackload of Kaylee dialogue for the FIREFLY ONLINE game. I now know how to say monkey balls in Mandarin.”

Described by makers FOX Digital Entertainment and QMx as a “multi-user, social online role-playing game,” FIREFLY ONLINE is currently slated for an initial iOS release with an Android and tablet release to follow. Additionally, a PC and Mac release is also expected sometime next year.

Here’s hoping more of the original cast return.
