Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon books are among the best-selling series of all time, and the first three have already been adapted into hugely popular films. It’s been a while since Tom Hanks starred in the leading role, though, and now fans are ready for a rebrand.

It was announced last year that Brown’s latest book, The Secret of Secrets, was picked up by Netflix soon after its release. Filming of the adaptation is reportedly underway, and it could be set to hit the platform later this year.

Da Vinci Code Was a Highly Influential Film

Brown is best known for The Da Vinci Code, which became a cultural phenomenon after the 2006 film adaptation was released. Along with being a highly gripping picture, it sparked debate about history and secret societies. It also raised awareness of Leonardo da Vinci’s works and ideas among today’s generations.

Indeed, the name lives on in popular culture in other ways, perhaps thanks to that film. For instance, people who play online bingo will have seen the Da Vinci Diamonds and the Da Vinci’s Mystery slot games. These are available to players in search of instant-win games and can be played alongside bingo. Da Vinci has even appeared in other games, such as Assassin’s Creed II and Civilization.

The Da Vinci Code was a huge success, raking in more than $760 million at the box office. Because of this, it led to adaptations of Angels & Demons and Inferno in 2009 and 2016 respectively.

Series Filming in Prague This Year

Tom Hanks won’t be returning as Langdon, and it’s been long enough since his turn as the character for a rebrand to be a hit. Netflix will aim to modernise the winning formula from the earlier films and make it accessible to today’s streaming audiences. The series is being created by Brown and Carlton Cuse and is said to be one of the most ambitious works of Brown’s to date. However, there have been no reports so far about who could be set to take on the lead role.

It has been announced that The Secret of Secrets will use various European settings, though, with filming taking place in Prague this year. Like the other offerings in the film series, this adventure is likely to take place across multiple settings as well.

Brown Could Be Inspired to Continue Book Series

The Secret of Secrets is the first Robert Langdon novel from Brown since Origin in 2017, and it will hopefully lead to a continuation of the Langdon series. With a Netflix deal in place, the author has a strong incentive to continue this work and provide more source material for the streaming platform to use. Fans will likely be begging for more, too, so he will want to appease his audience.

The Secret of Secrets is one of the most exciting adaptations coming to Netflix, and it will hopefully lead to a completely fresh take on the franchise. If it’s successful, it could inspire other series and spinoffs.
