Is ‘American Primeval’ Getting a Prequel?

A prequel to American Primeval is in active discussion right now, with Peter Berg serving as a potential director for the show. If a prequel were to be made, then there’s a good chance that it would focus on Isaac Reed, who is played by Taylor Kitsch. His backstory was hinted at in season one, but not explored.

The Allure of the Wild West

Westerns are in high demand right now. Even though large-scale movies aren’t as common as they once were, we are seeing a huge push in the genre through more independent studios. With Yellowstone really taking off, it goes to show that people want more stories set in the West.

It’s not just television that is drawing large viewing numbers. In fact, there are many successful games set in the West, including Red Dead Redemption. Upcoming titles like Wild West Pioneers are also said to be highly anticipated, as they give people the chance to build a city in the untamed frontier. Bullion Xpress, one of the many real money slot games at Paddy’s, is set in the Wild West, with vaults of gold bars, bags of coins, and steam trains serving as the core symbols in the game. The game also draws heavy inspiration from the Western Frontier and the railway lines that helped to connect different cities.

The Series is A Limited Story

The core story of American Primeval was written by Smith and Berg and intended to run as a limited series. The six episodes that are out right now tell the whole story that the writers set out to tell. With that said, things change, especially when you look at how Big Little Lies set out to do the same, but was then expanded with season two. Berg has said that although it was conceived as a limited series, he wasn’t quite ready to leave the characters when the show ended, and was actually interested in doing another show. He said he felt such affection for everyone, and in that moment, felt as though there were more stories to be told.

Although there has not been a second season greenlit yet, the show did so well that there is every chance of a second series being done in the future. Taylor Kitsch won’t be available for the proposed prequel, as he’s currently busy starring in Eleven Days according to Deadline, but this needn’t stop the project going ahead.

The prequel could tell the story that happened before the season, going into what made the character so unique, and how he got to where he is in the original story. There could also be the option to bring in other characters down the line, which would make things even more interesting. As a whole, it seems that there’s a lot of potential, and it’s very exciting to see not only if we are getting more stories, but also how much drive the writers have in making them happen.
