We’re reaching the end of May and looking forward to summer, but there are still plenty of great films and TV shows on Horror Channel each week. Here are some of our picks for the next seven days:
Tuesday May 25th, 11pm – Tales That Witness Madness (1973)
Not an Amicus film as many people think, but this anthology certainly feels like it and boasts similar stars. Directed by the legendary Freddie Francis, with Donald Pleasence, Jack Hawkins, Joan Collins, Michael Jayston, and a rare horror outing for Kim Novak. It may not be as memorable as Tales from the Crypt and the like, but is still creepy fun.
Wednesday May 26th, 10.50pm – The Burning (1981)
Infamous slasher from the video nasty age, The Burning is actually a great example of the subgenre. Taking its cue from Friday the 13th, this camp-based shocker has a badly burned caretaker return to Camp Stonewater to kill both the teens and councillors. Future stars Jason Alexander, Fisher Stevens, and Holly Hunter are among those up for slaughter. Rick Wakeman’s synth score is unforgettable too.
Friday May 28th, 8pm – Extant Season 2
The second season of the sci-fi drama begins and a new cast member arrives played by Negan himself, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. You can read our chat with the show’s creator, Mickey Fisher, here.
Saturday May 29th, 9pm – Highlander (1986)
Rip-roaring, time-spanning adventure with the immortal Connor MacLeod from the Clan MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) as he fights The Kurgan (a brilliant Clancy Brown) to the tune of a soundtrack by Queen. A Scottish-accented Spaniard played by Sean Connery adds to the fun.
Sunday May 30th, 7pm – Doomwatch (1972)
A spin-off from the BBC series of the same name, this big screen version boasts Ian Bannen and Judy Geeson as additions to the cast. Way ahead of its time, the show (and film) follow an ecological watchdog group investigating an island experiencing problems following a recent oil spill.
