Further evidence that 20th Century Fox is annihilating whatever faith fans may have had left for its FANTASTIC FOUR reboot have been revealed today.

TRANSCENDENCE star Kate Mara, who is portraying Sue Storm, a.k.a. The Invisible Woman, has stated that director Josh Trank advised his actors to not read any of the Fantastic Four’s rich and varied history.

Mara admitted to Esquire Mexico (via Comic Book Movie) “I’ve never been a fan of comics, I’ve never actually read one. I was going to for this movie but the director said it wasn’t necessary. Well, actually he told us that we shouldn’t do it because the plot won’t be based on any history of anything already published. So I chose to follow his instructions. The one fact is I am a fan of comic book movies, so it’s very exciting to be part of a movie like this.”

She then added that she does not “feel more responsibility with this role that felt with others”.

“I understand that there are many fans of Fantastic Four and I guess they expect a lot from me, but I prefer not to be pressured by that. We are also trying to create a new way of seeing these superheroes, I’m focusing on making her as real as possible.”

Michael B Jordan, Jamie Bell and Miles Teller also star in THE FANTASTIC FOUR, which is said to have a ‘found-footage feel’.

Surely Fox should be aiming this movie at its in-built audience, Fantastic Four fans, not alienating them. After all, if your core audience won’t turn out for the vital weekend opening, let alone repeat viewings and the positive word of mouth that can create, and that certainly seems to be likely judging by fans on the net and Twitter, how can you possibly hope to have a success?!

And Spidey fans thought they had a raw deal with this year’s THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2!

Should you be at all bothered still, THE FANTASTIC FOUR will open in UK cinemas on June 18th, 2015 and in the US on June 19th.
