With Matt Shakman already confirmed as director, Marvel has recently revealed who will write the new Fantastic Four MCU pic. Deadline breaks the news that Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer are on board to write the script for the film that will kick off Phase 6.

Reportedly, the writing duo was attached to the project prior even to Shakman being tapped to direct, and have already worked with Kevin Feige to outline the film’s place in the greater franchise.

Fantastic Four will mark Shakman’s second Marvel project, having previously directed the Disney+ series WandaVision; he replaces Jon Watts, who exited the Fantastic Four film after expressing the desire to take a break from superhero fare. Kaplan and Springer, meanwhile, are relatively new to the scene but are fast rising through the ranks in Hollywood. The writing duo is behind the spec script Warner Bros’ Disaster Wedding, which has Palm Springs filmmaker Max Barbakow attached to direct. They also wrote the Rebel Wilson comedy K-Pop: Lost in America, which is in development.

No actors are yet involved in the project, but casting will be underway soon as the script is being written.

Fantastic Four is due to release on November 8th, 2024.
