Ed Helms and McG (The Babysitter, upcoming dystopian fantasy Uglies) have joined Netflix’s Family Leave, a body swap comedy inspired by New York Times bestselling author Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s illustrated book, Bedtime for Mommy. Helms will star opposite previously-announced Jennifer Garner, with McG aboard as director and producer. Adam Sztykiel (Black AdamScoob!) is writing the latest draft of the script, working from a screenplay by Victoria Strouse. Netflix first announced the project in 2021, along with Garner’s casting.

The story follows Jess and Bill Walker, a married couple trying their best to keep their family connected as their children grow older, more independent, and more distant. When a chance encounter with an astrological reader causes the family to wake up, Freaky Friday-style, to a full body switch – and on the morning of the most important day of each of their lives, no less – can the Walkers unite to land a promotion, college interview, record deal and soccer try-out?

Though we know Helms and Garner will be leading Family Leave, the rest of the cast has yet to be announced. Filming is expected to begin before the end of the year, so expect further updates from us as soon as we hear!
