Gilbert Shelton, the genius behind The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, turns 75 today.

In order to celebrate, Freak Brothers UK publisher Knockabout Comics has teamed up with digital graphic novel app SEQUENTIAL to give away The SEQUENTIAL Guide to Gilbert Shelton’s Fabulous Furry Freak Brother, a digital collection of Shelton’s work.

The Freak Brothers (and its spin-off, Fat Freddy’s Cat) are a significant part of the history of comic books and are one of the better known examples of counter-culture comics from the ‘60s and ‘70s. Shelton also founded the ground-breaking publishing house, Rip Off Press Inc., and was inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame in 2012.

The SEQUENTIAL Guide to Gilbert Shelton’s Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers contains highlights of Shelton’s career as well as a great deal of comic strips and artwork. It’s downloadable for free from the SEQUENTIAL iPad app, which itself is available for free on iTunes here.
