Even since Ewan McGregor’s time as Obi-Wan Kenobi came to an end with Revenge of the Sith, many have clamoured for a solo movie for McGregor’s Jedi Master. Well, the actor has once again been discussing whether he’d have any interest in a return as Kenobi.
Speaking to Business Insider, McGregor said, “Listen, I have been asked about it a lot, to the point where it looks like I’m sort of touting for work. I’ve been very open to say I’d be happy to do it, if they want to do it.”
Having actually lent his vocals to Rey’s dream sequence in The Force Awakens, the Scot added, “I think they are set going into the 2030s with their movies, but it would be fun to do, of course I’d be happy to do it.”
Given how Disney and Lucasfilm have now moved in the direction of standalone adventure movies – officially dubbed Star Wars Story pictures – as well as their standard trilogies, many have looked at Obi-Wan Kenobi as being a perfect candidate to feature in a film of his own. The initial plan for the Star Wars Story movies was for there to be three of them; the first of which was Rogue One; the second of which is the upcoming to-be-titled Alden Ehrenreich-headlined young Han Solo film; and the third yet to be confirmed.
Where that third Star Wars Story is concerned, speculation for the topic of that film ranges from Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Yoda, to Boba Fett, to a whole host more.
Whether Ewan McGregor’s Kenobi will return to the big screen at any point, we’ll have to wait and see, although we’d certainly love to see a movie looking at the adventures of Obi-Wan’s days on Tatooine in between the events of Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars (sorry, A New Hope for you younger sorts).
