To coincide with their upcoming exhibition JAMIE SHOVLIN: HIKER MEAT – which documents the remaking of an exploitation classic that never actually existed – Manchester’s Cornerhouse have lined up a wonderful array of delights for those who like the grimy side of cinema.

As well as the aforementioned exhibition, which runs from January 18th – April 21st, the following events have been organised:

Special launch event: Creature Close-up with Kev Thornton – Friday 17th January at 5.30 – 6.00pm.

A free talk with prop maker Thornton, discussing the monster he created for the HIKER MEAT  film. The first 40 attendees will receive a Polaroid-type print of themselves with the monster! (limited availability, first come, first served)

Exhibition Launch – Friday 17th January 6.00 – 9.00pm (free, drop in)

Artist Tour and Talk – Saturday 18th January 2pm (free but booking required)

One Hour Intro – Exploitation Cinema – Saturday 18th January 3.00 – 4.00pm

Andy Willis (Reader in Film Studies at University of Salford) will introduce the world of exploitation cinema and ask, what exactly is an exploitation film? (£4 full/£3 concs)

All-night Sleazeathon – Saturday 18th January 9.00pm – 9.00am

Spend the night enjoying the gruesome delights of the seedier side of cinema

THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE (Dario Argento, 1970)

A breakfast discussion with Dr. C.P. Lee on Manchester exploitation filmmaker Cliff Twemlow (G.B.H., MOONSTALKER, THE EYE OF SATAN)

Discussion: The Cultural Politics of Exploitation Cinema – Saturday March 1st 3.00 – 4.30pm

A panel discussion on the issues surrounding the production of exploitation cinema throughout the world. (£4 full/£3 concs)

Throughout the season there will be screenings of ROUGH CUT, the meta-documentary on the ‘making’ of HIKER MEAT, the film that never existed!
