Tokyo Chipped Event News

Fab Cafe has been home to many wacky, weird and wonderful nights over the years. At the Manchester Fab alone, there have been sci-fi signings galore and tons of events celebrating cult and alternative cinema. It was this theme, along with the retro gaming themed cabinets that inspired Myk Wharton to host Tokyo Chipped.

Tokyo Chipped is a flagship night of Niche Nights: a group of promoters that strive to put on events in Manchester that cater for the alternative film, gaming and music fan. The debut of Tokyo Chipped was a packed out affair with people travelling from all over the UK to watch a big screen viewing of Fist of the North Star. Along with DJs playing Japanese and Korean pop and rock all night, there were two live DJ sets by Skin Walker and HarleyLikesMusic.

Skin Walker and HarleyLikesMusic played Chiptune (8-Bit) sets which inspired some frenzied dance-offs and stunned the audience by DJing using rewired Game Boys and a Nintendo DS. When the DJ sets finished, everyone settled down to a S.N.E.S Street Fighter 2 Turbo tournament with prizes and free Manga books supplied by Forbidden Planet Manchester.

Between retro gaming themes (which led to some truly inspired dancing) people relaxed and had free-for-all battles on the Playstation 2, N64 and S.N.E.S that were provided. The night was a packed out triumph, celebrating all things retro gaming, anime and manga!

Now we can look forward to the second Tokyo Chipped with a set from Chipzel, one of the biggest names in the UK Chiptune scene. Supporting is the legendary Skin Walker who returns with new material from his new album which he debuted at Septembers’ Geek Night II.

The next Tokyo Chipped is at Fab Cafe Manchester on the 21st of November and will be a NINJA SPECIAL! This means there will be a projector screening of Ninja Scroll and a free shot for anyone dressed as a ninja. After the screening there will be the usual S.N.E.S and N64 gaming available plus the newest addition… a SEGA Dreamcast! Let the Marvel vs. Capcom tournament begin!

All this plus more prizes donated from Forbidden Planet Manchester and drinks offers mean this is one unmissable Niche Night.
