For those who aren’t aware, July in Manchester is a hive of activity due to the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival. Alongside this year’s events we are pleased to announce the production of a play specially written by Starburst’s Original Fiction Editor for our pals over at Fab Café.

Rehearsal Space – which plays on the 14th, 15th and 16th July – is a heart-warming comedy set behind the scenes of a low budget 1970s sci-fi show called Professor Calamity. It examines how the fame and cult status the show gains over the years changes the cast and crew. The show is in two acts, the first set in 1972 and the 2nd in 2002. Over the span of 30 years what might have happened to those involved at its genesis? Love? Hate? Madness? All three and more?

This is a loving homage to the genre, with references to Doctor Who, Blake’s 7, Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy and more sprinkled liberally throughout – how many will you be able to spot?

Featuring the talents of

Charlie Allen as Sir Gerald Blake

Paul Mackay as Casper Addams

Lauren Rochford as Alice Clitheroe

Dominic Simpson as Charles Polari

Anne-Louise Fortune as Spoke & Fangirl

Rebecca Derrick as Veronica & Maria

John Skilling as Fanboy
