Harold and Maude News

The 1971 cult black comedy Harold & Maude features one of the darkest and most unconventional of cinematic romances, following the burgeoning relationship between the gloomy 20-year-old suicide-staging Harold (Bud Cort) and the sprightly octogenarian Maude (Ruth Gordon), whose bohemian wiles and open-arms approach to living enable Harold’s first gentle steps towards embracing existence.

Yet this screening of Harold & Maude, taking place as part of the 2014 Shock and Gore festival comes with a twist, as the audience will also be served special treats to please the senses from acclaimed food artists Conjurer’s Kitchen and AVM Curiosities. Themed drinks, sweet and savoury edibles, as well as ‘smell-ables’, will be specially created to match scenes of the film and enhance the journey of life and death unfolding on the screen.

Guests will be given a boxed selection of themed treats on arrival, also containing an edible menu, instructions, and details about the specific scenes. Specially chosen cocktails will be available at the bar throughout the evening, and a parting gift for each guest will bring the night to a close.

NB: The food selection is vegetarian, but not vegan.

Harold & Maude will be in Electric Cinema, Birmingham, on Wednesday 30th July. Tickets can be purchased from their website.
