EM-CON Event News

Nottingham isn’t the first name that springs to mind when you think of the UK convention scene, but all that might be about to change.

In March the city will play host to the inaugural EM-CON, featuring over 30 guests from DOCTOR WHO, STAR WARS, RED DWARF, GAME OF THRONES and many more.

The idea for the event was originally suggested by none other than RED DWARF’s Danny John Jules. He suggested to a friend of his, event organiser Lee Wallis, that Nottingham might be a good venue for a convention.

“He was convinced that in Nottingham there would be a lot of people who would enjoy this sort of thing” said Lee. “Just as I began to realise he was right he went off to the Caribbean for 8 months and left me to it! But in that time I discovered there’s been nothing like this in the East Midlands.”

Danny made up for it though, roping in his RED DWARF crewmates Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Robert Llewellyn and Norman Lovett for what is likely to be the day’s highlight. Even Captain Hollister (Mac McDonald) is putting in an appearance.

No British convention would be complete without a showing from DOCTOR WHO, and Dan Starkey (Strax), Caitlin Blackwood (Amelia Pond) and Frazer Hines (Jamie) will all appear, along with TORCHWOOD’s Eve Miles and Kai Owen.

In addition the event, which takes place at Nottingham’s Albert Hall on 16th March, boasts no fewer than five GAME OF THRONES cast members, PRIMEVAL star (and former S-Clubber) Hannah Spearitt, the legendary David Warner, and, most exciting of all (at least, as far as our Assistant Editor Kris is concerned), RETURN OF THE JEDI’s Max Rebo himself, Simon J. Williamson.

A variety of well-known writers and authors will also be appearing throughout the day, including DOCTOR WHO’s (and former Starburst Contributing Editor) David J Howe.
