On Saturday April 19th, the nominations for the 2014 Hugo Awards were announced at Satellite 4 (the British National Science Fiction Convention held in Glasgow this year).

And it’s good news for Doctor Who: in the Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form) category the show takes up four of the six nominations with An Adventure in Time and Space, Day of the Doctor, Name of the Doctor and The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot.

The show also features in two other categories. In Best Related Work is the Mad Norwegian Press title Queers Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the LGBTQ Fans Who Love It (edited by Sigrid Ellis & Michael Damian Thomas) and in Best Graphic Story is Paul Cornell’s The Girl Who Loved Doctor Who which was illustrated by Jimmy Broxton.

For those who don’t know, the Hugo’s are the most prestigious of all science fiction awards and have been awarded annually since 1955. This year they will be presented at Loncon 3 the World Science Fiction Convention held in London at the Excel 14 – 18 August 2014. STARBURST will of course be reporting the outcome in all 16 categories (and the associated JW Campbell Award for best new writer).
