Celluloid Screams: Sheffield Horror Film Festival, Friday 25 – Sunday 27 October 2013, returns to Showroom Cinema for its fifth edition, with a weekend packed full of premieres, previews, special guests and more in what promises to be the festival’s best year yet.

Don Thacker’s hallucinatory horror comedy featuring a mass of talking fungus, Motivational Growth kicks off the festival on the Friday, one of several UK premieres which also include Brian Netto’s demonic possession reality TV-inspired Delivery; Olivier Beguin’s vampire tale Chimeres; and Renaud Gauthier’s delirious Discopath (which is the closing night gala). Also in this year’s line-up are: Juan Carlos Medina’s poignant Spanish allegory Painless; Jeremy Gardner’s zombie drama The Battery; Chad Crawford Kinkle’s backwoods nightmare Jug Face; Eckhard Schmidt’s tale of obsessive fandom, Trance; Israel’s Big Bad Wolves from the directors of last year’s festival hit, Rabies; and the neo-giallo The Strange Colour of your Tears, from Amer auteurs Hélène Cattet & Bruno Forzani. Lee Hardcastle introduces a collection of his Claymation films (including his legendary version of John Carpenter’s The Thing starring children’s’ favourite Pinguin) on the Saturday. Most screenings are followed by Q&As with the directors.

This year’s Guest of Honour is none other than Starburst favourite Frank Henenlotter, who introduces a special double-bill of Basket Case 1 & 2, followed by a Q&A, on the Friday Night; and introduces the Saturday All-Nighter of Frankenhooker, Return of the Living Dead, The Beyond and Braindead. With Opening and Closing Night parties on the Friday and Sunday, who needs sleep anyway?

On the Sunday Celluloid Screams presents its secret film. Last year’s was the wonderful CITADEL, which impressed festival-goers so much that they gave it the Audience Award for Best Film.  What’s in store for 2013? You’ll just have to wait and see…
