Whilst Rogue One is edging ever-closer to that magic billion dollar box office mark, we can now cast our gaze towards our next trip to a galaxy far, far away. On that topic, Episode VIII director Rian Johnson has been discussing what we can expect for Daisy Ridley’s Rey.

Speaking to USA Today, Johnson said, “I don’t want to skip ahead two years, I want to see the very next moment of what happens. Part of what she’s dealing with is the realisation that she has this power and this gift. She’s taking her first step to coming to terms with this thing inside her that she never knew was there and is just starting to reveal its potential.”

Johnson also added that the relationship between Rey and Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker will be a key part of the film, and that “a large part of the movie” will be explaining why Luke is on Ahch-To island and what his purpose will be going forward.

In additional Episode VIII news, MakingStarWars is reporting that Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren will be decked out with a fancy cape similar to Darth Vader’s when Johnson’s movie hits the big screen. As big fans of any and all capes, that’s perfectly fine with us.

Joining Ridley, Hamill and Driver in this next venture to a galaxy far, far away will be the late Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, and new additions Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is set for a December 15th release.
