Eman Esfandi will bring fan-favourite Star Wars character Ezra Bridger to live-action in Ahsoka, Disney announced ahead of the D23 Expo.

Ezra Bridger first appeared on screens in 2014 in the animated Star Wars Rebels, where he was voiced by actor Taylor Gray. The character grew from an orphan with a knack for the Force into a Rebel who trained in the ways of the Jedi.

Esfandi joins Rosario Dawson, the latter playing the titular Jedi Ahsoka Tano, who first made the move to live-action in season two of The Mandalorian and later appeared in The Book of Boba Fett. Also confirmed to star in the upcoming Star Wars series are Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ivanna Sakhno, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren. Hayden Christensen will also be reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker (after his return in Obi-Wan Kenobi), and Ray Stevenson will play a yet-unknown villain.

Dave Filoni is writing and executive producing the series about Ahsoka Tano’s galaxy-spanning search for Grand Admiral Thrawn, a former commander in the Empire, alongside Star Wars collaborator Jon Favreau. Peter Ramsey is aboard to direct.

Eman Esfandi has previously starred in Red 11 and held a small part in King Richard. He’ll next be seen in the festival gem The Inspection.

Though the official release date for Star Wars: Ahsoka has yet to be announced, it’s safe to expect the series will be landing on Disney+ in the first half of next year.
