Having assembled its titular team towards the end of last year, the upcoming big screen Power Rangers reboot has found its ‘big bad’.

Lionsgate has officially announced that Elizabeth Banks will be playing the villainous Rita Repulsa in the redo. The rogue is best described as an evil witch, one who plans to rule the world after having been held prisoner for thousands of years. Banks will be known to STARBURST readers for roles in the likes of The Hunger Games, Zack & Miri Make a Porno, The LEGO Movie, Slither and, of course, for playing Betty Brant in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.

The hugely talented actress joins a cast that currently includes Dacre Montgomery as Jason/Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy/Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly/Pink Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack/Black Ranger, and Becky G as Trini/Yellow Ranger.

X-Men: First Class and Thor’s Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller have penned the script for this reboot, with Project Almanac’s Dean Israelite on board to direct. At present, Power Rangers is set for a March 24th, 2017 release.
