Canadian indie filmmaking outfit Luchagore Productions have teamed up with genre production house Raven Banner to make a feature-length version of El Gigante, Gigi Saul Guerrero’s gruesome short of a monstrous luchador wrestler and his cannibalistic family.

Successfully funded through Kickstarter last year, El Gigante is a direct adaptation of the first chapter of Shane McKenzie’s novel Muerte Con Carne, and the deal, made on Saturday at Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival, will see the story from the rest of the book transposed onto the screen in all its horrific and visceral glory.

Raven Banner managing partner Michael Paszt stated, “The team of Gigi, Raynor and Luke at Luchagore is one of the most exciting new genre production companies to come out of Canada and we’re excited to get in the ring with them.”

Luchagore producer Raynor Shima said, “Luchagore is proud to further strengthen its bond with Raven Banner in the development of El Gigante by coming on as EP, worldwide sales and Canadian distribution. The Frontières Market has been a proving ground for future investment of upcoming filmmakers.”
