With the recent cast reveals for 20th Century Fox’s DEADPOOL, there was one person who was omitted: Ed Skrein. The actor has been long-confirmed for the film, but his exact role was being kept under wraps. Well the cat is now out of the bag, with Skrein confirming that he will indeed by playing the villainous Ajax in the film.

Skrein took to Twitter to reveal the news, posting the below picture and the brief caption: “#deadpool #ajax”

The character of Ajax debuted back in 1998’s DEADPOOL #14 and is one of the characters who is responsible for Wade Wilson becoming Deadpool. Ajax was on hand as part of the famed Weapon X programme, and he was later transformed into an unstoppable killing machine with increased speed and strength and the ability to not feel pain. And obviously even unstoppable killing machines can be stoppable from time-to-time, as shown when the Merc with a Mouth would kill him off (he had essentially ripped out Wilson’s heart at this point, in fairness) only for him to return further down the line.

The official word on DEADPOOL reads:

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humour, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Ryan Reynolds is Wade Wilson/Deadpool, T.J. Miller is Weasel, Gina Carano is Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand is Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Morena Baccarin is Copycat, and we’ve now got confirmation of Ed Skrein as Ajax. There’ll also be an appearance by the X-Men’s Colossus, although Daniel Cudmore will not be reprising the role he played in the X-MEN movie franchise.

To be directed by Tim Miller, DEADPOOL is set for a February 12th, 2016 release.
