Dwayne Johnson playing a DC character on the big screen has been a rumour for years, and last month brought word that the actor was set to star in the long-rumoured SHAZAM. Now comes confirmation that Johnson will headline the movie, although it’s still not sure which side of the fence he’ll be on.

In Mexico to promote HERCULES, Johnson told The Associated Press that he currently cant’ decide whether he’ll play the hero Shazam or the villainous Black Adam. He did add, “I am putting my heart and soul and my bones into this role.”

Furthermore, the actor gave further details to Brazil’s Omelete, translated as saying, “My trip to Comic-Con was a surprise, so I called personally to executives at New Line and Warner Bros. to see if they would like to announce SHAZAM with me there. Unfortunately, it was not time yet, but the official announcement should happen soon. I am 100% sure that the movie will happen. We’re talking about it since 2008, when I was offered the role first. It was just a matter of finding the right script – and it finally happened now. We have a writer who understood the story and brought an amazing approach not only to Shazam, but also the power of Black Adam.”

Personally, we’d prefer to see Johnson as Black Adam, although whether Warner Brothers would put such a kid-friendly box-office star as the villain of such a movie remains to be seen.

Officially, SHAZAM has still not been confirmed, although it’s speculated that it will be released in 2016, after Zack Snyder’s BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE hits.

Expect more on this as it develops.
