Cult comic book DREADSTAR is to be adapted into a TV series by Universal Cable Productions, the company responsible for shows such as EUREKA, WAREHOUSE 13 and CAPRICA.
DREADSTAR is a science fiction fantasy adventure created by comics legend Jim Starlin, who is best known for creating Marvel characters Thanos, Gamora and Drax the Destroyer, names that should be familiar to anyone who has seen the movie GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.
DREADSTAR is the story of Vanth Dreadstar, the last survivor of the Milky Way Galaxy who strives to defeat two pan-galactic empires. The character was part of EPIC, Marvel’s creator-owned imprint, and was popular during the early 80’s.
Benderspink, a company that specialise is putting comic book characters on the screen, initially announced that the DREADSTAR adaptation would be a movie, though it seems this plan has been put to one side for now. Jim Starlin will serve as the executive producer and writer. Producer Ford Gilmore has also been attached to the project.
Benderspink also have other comic book adaptations in development, including an unnamed Warren Ellis project as well as a version of Frank J. Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham’s pulp adventure series, FIVE GHOSTS.
