With the first trailer having debuted earlier this week for Universal’s new take on The Mummy, now comes an update on just when the studio’s new shared monster movie universe actually starts.

Previously, it was believed that 2014’s Dracula Untold was the starting point for this new cinematic realm, but now it’s been revealed that the Luke Evans-starring Dracula effort isn’t actually canon in the greater scheme of this new batch of Universal monster movies.

Speaking to Collider, The Mummy director Alex Kurtzman simply said “No” when asked whether Dracula Untold was canon where The Mummy and the rest of Universal’s upcoming monster films were concerned. And for anyone who’s seen Dracula Untold, you’ll likely agree that it’s probably for the best that the movie is ignored if Universal is looking to establish a good start for this new shared universe.

Where things stand right now, as well as Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella headlining The Mummy, Johnny Depp is signed up to star in The Invisible Man, Javier Bardem is wanted to play the famed monster in a new Frankenstein movie, Angelina Jolie has had talks over starring in and directing Bride of Frankenstein, Dwayne Johnson Universal’s top choice to star in The Wolf Man, and Russell Crowe’s mystery role in The Mummy is rumoured to eventually be revealed as being Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde.

The Mummy is set to hit cinemas on June 9th, 2017.
