Only yesterday, it was reported that Robert Downey Jr. was in negotiations for IRON MAN 4. The actor seemingly let the cat out of the bag during an appearance on THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW. And now comes a U-turn of sorts, as RDJ has since said once more that IRON MAN 4 is definitely not happening… although he did tease his involvement in some further Marvel projects.

Speaking on LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN, Downey Jr. said, “There’s no plans for an IRON MAN 4. There’s no script for IRON MAN 4, but they do have a plan and I think they’re gonna announce it. You know, very secretive about it.”

When asked about the topic again later in the appearance, the actor added, “Just between us, no, but I’m gonna do other stuff with Marvel. I’m still going to be involved with Marvel and there’s gonna be plenty of fun stuff to happen.”

At this stage, Robert Downey Jr.’s current Marvel Studios deal includes appearances in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and THE AVENGERS 3. So what could the “other stuff” be that the actor refers to? Could there be talks of extending RDJ’s deal to include further AVENGERS movies? Could he somehow wind up in a movie alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy team? Could it be something completely different? Whatever it is, it seems, for now at least, that it won’t include IRON MAN 4. Either way, Downey Jr. will be seen next donning the Iron Man armour when Joss Whedon’s AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON hits UK screens on April 24th.

Expect more on this as it develops.
