20th Century Fox’s Gambit has had its fair share of problems, with star Channing Tatum first hesitant to commit to the film, and then director Rupert Wyatt departing the movie back in September. But things seems to be getting back on track for this upcoming X-Men spin-off.

Back in October we reported that Doug Liman was believed to be in talks to helm Gambit, and The Hollywood Reporter now has word that, yes, the Edge of Tomorrow and Bourne Identity director is indeed in the frame. The latest report is that Liman is in final negotiations to sign on for Gambit, with him having beaten out the likes of Joe Cornish, Shane Black, and F. Gary Gray for the gig.

At present, Gambit is set for an October 7th, 2016 release, meaning that production will likely be expected to start more-or-less as soon as Liman signs on the dotted line.
