Ever since horror characters have been brought to life on the big screen, fans have always had the urge to see these behemoths do battle with each other. From the likes of Frankenstein and the Wolf Man, to Freddy and Jason, to Xenomorphs and Predators, and even to those rumours of a Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash movie, horror hounds have championed these gladiatorial-esque bouts. One mash-up that we didn’t see, though, was the coming together of Halloween’s Michael Myers and Hellraiser’s Pinhead. But we nearly did. That’s according to a new interview with Hellraiser star Doug Bradley.

Speaking to Your Move Magazine, Bradley explained that the early-2000s nearly saw his Pinhead butting heads with The Shape. “I was told that the year before Freddy vs. Jason was released,” Bradley revealed, “Dimension Films rejected two scripts for a Hellraiser-Halloween crossover, which was obviously where they would go because they didn’t think it would work. They predicted that Freddy vs. Jason would bomb, but it opened at the top of the box office and stayed there for a second weekend – I think I’m right in saying that it was the first movie that year to do so. After its success, Dimension wanted a Hellraiser-Halloween movie made immediately so it was certainly going ahead. I had a couple of phone conversations with Clive about it and I was getting quietly excited. Clive said he would write it and I heard reports John Carpenter would direct.”

The reason that this didn’t come to be? Bradley said, “The version of events I got back on this is that the Akkad brothers, who produced Halloween, retained control of the sequels and didn’t want the crossover to be made. I guess they didn’t want Michael Myers hanging around with the likes of Pinhead.”

Additionally, at that particular time, fans were polled on seeing a Michael vs. Pinhead crossover movie, and that poll was met with a largely negative response.

Of course, both Michael Myers and Pinhead were mooted for possible movies with Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees as well at times, but nothing more came of a crossover of all of these modern horror movie icons bar the aforementioned Freddy vs. Jason.
