DOCTOR WHO fans of a certain vintage will undoubtedly feel a little shiver of fanboy joy with the release of a new photograph taken this week on the TARDIS set in the BBC’s Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff. Actress Katy Manning, who played third Doctor Jon Pertwee’s companion Jo Grant from 1971 and 1973, was in Cardiff filming an episode of BBC hospital drama CASUALTY in the adjoining studio and the opportunity to recreate a moment of DOCTOR WHO history was clearly too much to resist. Manning, who returned to the DOCTOR WHO world for two episodes of the much-missed spin-off THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES in 2010, joined new Doctor Peter Capaldi, currently filming the show’s Christmas special, to recreate a familiar publicity image from the 1971 Pertwee serial ‘Colony in Space’. Posting on Twitter Katy Manning was clearly enamoured of the latest incarnation of her old Time-travelling friend: “Peter Capaldi is not only a superb actor but one of the most charming men I have met,” she said.

DOCTOR WHO airs every Saturday night on BB1 and on BBC America and across the world.
