DOCTOR WHO fans of a certain vintage will be sure to remember the 1980s company WHO DARES PUBLISHING, founded by TARGET BOOKS cover artist ANDREW SKILLETER and famous for a series of art and poster prints throughout the original series’ final decade on television. Who Dares issued the official Doctor Who calendars from 1986 to 1989 and were also the original publisher of DAVID BANKS’ renowned book CYBERMEN, as well as the collected RADIO TIMES artwork of FRANK BELLAMY.

And here’s the news: a quarter of a century later, WHO DARES are back – with a brand new calendar for 2017 featuring twelve examples of Skilleter’s Target book cover art. The first of its kind!

Skilleter’s Target book art spanned stories as diverse as The Gunfighters, Nightmare of Eden and Warriors of the Deep, and it was Skilleter who was chosen to design the covers for the novelisation of the very first Doctor Who story An Unearthly Child and Target’s 100th Doctor Who adaptation, The Two Doctors – all of which are included here, as well as the dramatic reprint covers of The Dæmons and The Abominable Snowmen, the Fourth Doctor regeneration story Logopolis and the Cybermen-starring The Invasion. In all, twelve pieces of cover art adorn the calendar, compositions that are certain to stir feelings of nostalgia among classic series fans – and hopefully pique the interest of newer Doctor Who fans too.

This A3 sized 250gsm satin paper calendar is destined to be an essential purchase in the run-up to Christmas, the kind of merchandise that will rekindle memories of hunting around bookshops looking for that last copy of Frontios thirty-two Yuletides ago, or queuing in the mud at Longleat in 1983 hoping to catch a glimpse of Tom Baker or pick up an art print of the Earthshock Cybermen. It retails at £19.95 plus postage and full board packaging and can be bought from the brand new WHO DARES website here.
