Right now, live-action takes on famed fairytales seems to be all the rage, and Disney is developing another new take on Snow White.

For the new musical, live-action version of Snow White, the House of Mouse is currently in talks with The Girl on the Train’s Erin Cressida Wilson to pen the screenplay. This new take will look to expand the story and songs of the original animated movie, and songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul have been brought in to write new songs for this redo. Marc Platt, who is additionally working on Mary Poppins Returns, will be producing.

Disney first brought Snow White to life with 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The animated effort was based on the famed Brothers Grimm tale, and was actually the first of Disney’s animated feature films. Since then, we’ve seen plenty of other adaptations of Snow White, such as recent so-so offerings like Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman.

Of course, Disney won a whole load of plaudits – and took home a whole load of cash! – with Jon Favreau’s stunning take on The Jungle Book earlier this year. That joined other recent new takes on old favourites, such as Maleficent and Cinderella.

Up next where the studio’s live-action fairytales are concerned, next March sees the Emma Watson-starring Beauty and the Beast hit screens. In addition to that, Disney has a live-action Mulan penciled in for 2018, Jon Favreau has recently signed on for a new take on The Lion King, and Guy Ritchie is now on board to direct a live-action Aladdin.
