With Warner Brothers’ Justice League Dark having had its fair share of problems over the past few years, now comes another blow for the movie with the news that director Doug Liman has now departed the project.

As per Variety, Liman has left Justice League Dark due to his commitments with the upcoming big screen adaptation of Patrick Ness’ Chaos Walking – a film that will star Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland.

The Edge of Tomorrow helmer had boarded JL Dark last August when it was announced that he had quit another long-gestating problematic superhero movie, 20th Century Fox’s Gambit. Before Liman signed on for this look into the darker reaches of the DC world, Guillermo del Toro had been developing Justice League Dark for a few years before he also had to leave this all behind.

The last real piece of information we’d heard on Justice League Dark was that it was now titled Dark Universe. Now that Universal has nabbed the Dark Universe title as the name for their upcoming shared monster movie-verse that begins with next month’s The Mummy, it appears that the cinematic adventures of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Deadman, etc is back to being called Justice League Dark.

As ever, expect more on all of this as we get it.
