She came through your television screen from America by way of Japan to scare your proverbial pants off! While Gore Verbinksi largely sanitised and bloated the rather simple idea of the original RINGU, it kickstarted an American fixation with J-horror… or the remaking of it, at least!

Variety has reported that F. Javier Gutierrez (who’s also still circling THE CROW franchise) is set to direct the third in the franchise for Paramount Pictures. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing, though it’s currently unclear whether franchise star Naomi Watts will return for the story, which early reports point to being a prequel tale.

While we’re all fans of the franchise (for the most part), we do have to prose the question though: In a world where even DVDs are gradually becoming less and less prevalent, what power does a horror film about a haunted tape really have?
