Universal Pictures has gone ahead and confirmed the release date of the previously-confirmed THE PURGE 3. To be directed by James DeMonaco, THE PURGE 3 will hit screens on July 1st, 2016. DeMonaco wrote and directed the previous two outings for the franchise.
Given the impressive profit margins for the first two PURGE movies, a third film was always going to be a given. The first film hit in 2013, costing just $3 million and grossing just shy of $90 million. The second film, THE PURGE: ANARCHY, hit screens last year and grossed $111 million from a $9 million budget.
No plot details are known on THE PURGE 3 at this moment, although expect plenty more focus on the one day of the year where all criminal activity is legal.
