With THE WALKING DEAD having recently returned to our screens, now comes some news on that long-discussed ‘companion’ series for AMC’s hugely successful walker-heavy show. Deadline is reporting that Adam Davidson will be helming the pilot episode of the new show. Davidson won an Academy Award back in 1991 for THE LUNCH DATE and has since directed episodes of shows such as DEXTER, TRUE BLOOD, COMMUNITY, ROME, and DEADWOOD.

As for the pilot that Davidson will be helming, that’s expected to go into production at the close of the year, with an airing targeted for the middle of 2015. Plot-wise, all we’ve been told is that the show will focus on entirely different characters to THE WALKING DEAD and will be set in an entirely different locale to that show. Some speculation has even suggested that the companion show will be set before the world went to shit and walkers filled the streets. Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson are creating this new show, with Erickson also serving as the showrunner for the series. Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert will be executive producing.

Expect more on this as it develops.
