Following on from today’s first look at Benedict Cumberbatch as Marvel’s Doctor Strange, we’ve finally got some information on what Mads Mikkelsen’s mystery role in the Master of the Mystic Arts movie will be.

Whilst the exact role hasn’t been revealed, we do know that Mikkelsen will be butting heads with Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme. Speaking to EW, executive producer Stephen Broussard said, “Mads is playing our main villain.”

Tying in to this, producer Kevin Feige added, “We will take audiences through sort of a guide to the multiverse, other dimensions, and there are amazing things out there – wonders that are going to be hopefully visually extremely interesting and unique to this movie. But there are also very scary things in these other dimensions.”

Feige then teased, “Mads’ character is a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect. He believes that The Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things though.”

On the actual character who Mikkelsen is to play, Broussard remained tightlipped, simply saying, “I’ve seen lots of names thrown around. No one has quite picked the name that we’ve chosen for him. It would be fun to conceal that, if we can.”

With Chiwetel Ejiofor confirmed to play Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange, one thought process would suggest that Mikkelsen could be revealed to be some take on Dormammu, a character who becomes the master of Mordo in the comic book realm. That’s purely speculation on our part, though, for we’ll have to wait and see just who Mads Mikkelsen will be playing when Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange hits cinemas on November 4th.
