If you’re one of those people who let out a groan at stories of comic book properties being tinkered with for the amusement of Hollywood, brace yourself. It seems that ever since 20th Century Fox announced their FANTASTIC FOUR reboot, all that’s followed has been news and rumours that have left long-time comic book fans simply shaking their head. Well STARBURST fave Toby Kebbell has been discussing his role in Josh Trank’s redo, the role of Doctor Doom.

Speaking to Superhero Hype, Kebbell said, “The thing I really concentrated on for Doctor Doom – or just ‘Doom,’ as we’ve got him – was the voice. Even on the animated series, they never got his voice what I imagined it to be when I read the comics as a little boy. What I spent the majority of my time doing was not just being a fan, but being a bit of a pedant and making sure I got exactly what I always wanted to see.”

Additionally, during an interview with Collider, Kebbell revealed that Trank’s movie will not feature the usual Victor Von Doom. Instead, the villain of the piece will be named Victor Domashev, described as an “anti-social programmer” who posts online under the handle of “Doom”.

Right then… has that calmed your fears on this latest FF movie? I mean how better to represent one of the most iconic villains in the history of comic books by turning him into an anti-social programmer who seemingly trolls the online world? And whilst we do have a lot of time for Toby Kebbell, if he was such a fan of the comic books as a child then surely the bigger issue wouldn’t be the voice of the character, it’d be the actual characterisation of Doctor Doom itself.

As well as Kebbell, THE FANTASTIC FOUR will also feature Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, and Tim Blake Nelson as Harvey Elder.

Directed by Josh Trank, THE FANTASTIC FOUR is currently set for an August 7th, 2015 release.
