Halloween always brings with it the celebration of horror films on the big screen, with many cinemas running retrospective programmes and the like. Well, once Samhain is over, fear fans in Deptford can enjoy something different. A season celebrating Mary Shelley’s creation, Frankenstein – but with a difference!

From the press release:

Alongside some amazing films, all inspired by, but none a direct remake of Frankenstein, we have designed this season with the true cult film fan in mind. For those who survive all Five Fridays of Frankenstein with their special loyalty card stamped at every screening, there will be an exclusive Frankenstein Forever tote bag full of limited edition goodies.* We will also have the bags and the specially designed season posters available for purchase at the cinema throughout November. And if that’s not enough, there will be a participatory sing-a-long, the Ultimate Frankenstein Pub Quiz, and a Frank-n-Cocktail that we will be serving every night. What more could you want?

The season launches on Halloween week with:

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (dir. Jim Sharman, 1975) – A sing-a-long, participatory screening hosted by our very own comperes. Rocky Horror goodie bags provided for all guests, so dress up and do the Time Warp with us again! The bar will be open after the film for a Meatloaf medley and spooky tunes until 2am .

Friday November 2nd doors open from 7pm, and the film starts at 8pm [Tickets available here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/lewisham/deptford-cinema/the-rocky-horror-picture-show ]

Next, we will screen B-movie extraordinaire Roger Corman’s final film FRANKENSTEIN UNBOUND (1990) on Friday 9th November. [Tickets available here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/lewisham/deptford-cinema/frankenstein-unbound ]

The third film of the season is the Wild West horror mash-up from William ‘one-shot’ Beaudine – JESSE JAMES MEETS FRANKENSTEIN’S DAUGHTER (1966). You’ll have to see it to believe it. Bonus prize for anyone who spots Frankenstein’s Daughter in the film (hint it’s actually his Granddaughter!) This film screens on Friday November 16th [Tickets available here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/lewisham/deptford-cinema/jesse-james-meets-frankenstein-s-daughter ]

The penultimate film in the season is the Japanese kaiju film FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD (dir. Ishirô Honda, 1965) with marvellous special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya. If you’re a fan of old skool physical effects this is not one to miss. The film will also be followed by the Ultimate Frankenstein Pub Quiz – join in for just £1 each!

The screening and quiz will be held on Friday November 23rd. [Tickets available here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/lewisham/deptford-cinema/frankenstein-conquers-the-world ]

TCM describes the film as ‘easily the weirdest [film inspired by Shelley’s novel]’, and DVDDrive-In.com have called it a ‘cult favourite’.

We couldn’t think of a better way to end the season than with the gore-tastic BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR (dir. Brian Yuzna, 1989), which screens on Friday November 30th. [Tickets available here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/lewisham/deptford-cinema/bride-of-reanimator ]
