Oh this is good news. This is very, very good news. Yes, finally, after years of rumours (and some ridiculously cool test footage), 20th Century Fox has confirmed that they are moving forward with DEADPOOL, even going as far as marking the film down for a February 12th, 2016 release.

In terms of talent, Ryan Reynolds will be returning as the merc with a mouth, with Tim Miller, best known for working as a creative supervisor on SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, to direct. The script has been put together by the ZOMBIELAND duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Only a few months ago, that long-discussed test footage made its way online and it was mind-blowingly good. In fact, only earlier today Reynolds had been talking to the Niagara Falls Review about the reaction to that footage, saying, “There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, ‘Oh, so we weren’t crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.’ It’s interesting to see the power of the Internet. It’s awe-inspiring, actually. And it’s neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way.”

Clearly Reynolds knew something we didn’t when he was doing the interview, but yeah, it’s official: fan favourite Deadpool will be heading to the big screen to headline his own movie.

Despite the lukewarm (and that’s being kind) response to X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, most agree that Reynolds’ turn as Wade Wilson was the highlight of the movie. Well, until the character get bastardised, but hey ho.

Expect more on this as it develops, but we can finally relax in the knowledge that Deadpool will finally be breaking that cinematic fourth wall in a few years’ time.
