Long-time fans of the Merc with a Mouth have been given some good news today, with star Ryan Reynolds confirming that the upcoming DEADPOOL will indeed, as we’d all hoped and prayed for, be R-rated. That’s not to say that the actor didn’t have some fun with us all first.

Taking to his Twitter account yesterday, Reynolds had fans believing that the dreaded PG-13 rating was going to be slapped on one of Marvel’s most adult characters, saying, “#deadpool – So we make the blood green. (Views expressed here are mind – not necessarily those of adorable, taint-punchers releasing films). A PG-13 #deadpool will still have the 4th wall breaking, a shit-ton of action and at least 3 chimichangas. Zero need to panic. I promise.”

Of course, Reynolds was just pulling our legs, going on to confirm the R-rated certificate for the film in true Deadpool style during an interview with Mario Lopez:

The official synopsis for DEADPOOL reads:

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

As well as Reynolds, the film was also feature TJ Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Morena Baccarin as Copycpat, and an unknown role for Ed Skrein. The X-Men’s Colossus will also be present, although not played by Daniel Cudmore.

To be directed by Tim Miller, DEADPOOL is currently set for a February 12th, 2016 release.
