Despite Deadpool 2 having had a few issues lately – mainly director Tim Miller and composer Junkie XL departing the project – it appears that 20th Century Fox is already casting their eyes towards a third Deadpool movie.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that Deadpool 3 will actually be an X-Force-driven movie, which certainly makes sense given that two longstanding X-Force members, Cable and Domino, will be present in Deadpool 2. Whilst the immediate task at hand is to find a director for Deadpool 2, Fox is also on the hunt for somebody to helm the third Deadpool movie.

Of course, recent years have seen Fox working on getting an X-Force movie off the ground. Given how some of the team’s characters will be turning up in Deadpool 2 ahead of the group becoming part of Deadpool 3, it could well be that Deadpool 3 will actually take the spot of that long-mooted X-Force effort.

Elsewhere, Gambit and The New Mutants are two other X-movies that have been in development at the studio. The Channing Tatum-starring Gambit has been trying to get going for over a year now, with the film actually set for an October 2016 release at one point in time. Director Doug Liman departed the movie earlier this year, and delays once again kicked in on Gambit. Tatum is still on board to star and produce the film, and him having recently finished shooting Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky means that he’s now free to take on the role of the uber-cool Remy LeBeau. The only problem there, though, is that Gambit needs to find itself a new director first. On The New Mutants, however, all is a little more positive, with director Josh Boone expected to start shooting that movie as soon as the first half of 2017.

As ever, expect more on all of these projects as and when they develop.
