With the next entry in the main X-franchise, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, set to start shooting later this year, it’s now been confirmed that a certain fan favourite mutant will be making an appearance in the 2018 movie.

As per EW, it’s been confirmed that Alison Blaire, aka Dazzler, will have a small role in Dark Phoenix. For the eagle-eyed amongst you, you’ll remember that the character was briefly teased in X-Men: Apocalypse. Having debuted in the comic book world back in 1980 – during the Dark Phoenix Saga, as it happens – Dazzler is someone who is able to generate all sorts of light displays. Making the most of her ability, she initially uses this skill to add some extra gloss to her music career. And it’s the music career element that was the source of her Apocalypse cameo, as some of the that film’s younger mutants pick up one of her albums when they’re in a record store.

Additionally, despite plenty of previous rumours, it’s believed that Taylor Swift will not be playing the role of Dazzler.

Where X-Men: Dark Phoenix is concerned, confirmed to return for that picture are James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and, of course, Sophie Turner. The only new addition at this stage is Zero Dark Thirty’s Jessica Chastain, who will be playing Lilandra, the Empress of the Shi’ar alien race who will serve as the ‘big bad’ of the film as she and her kind are on the hunt to find and destroy the Phoenix Force that is starting to take over Turner’s young Jean Grey.

To be directed by longtime franchise writer/producer Simon Kinberg, X-Men: Dark Phoenix is currently set for a November 2nd, 2018 release.
