With Finn Jones now in place to headline Marvel’s Iron Fist, the Netflix-exclusive show has brought in a new face in the form of 300’s David Wenham.

Marvel Television has announced that Wenham, who will also be familiar to genre fans for his turn in Peter Jackon’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, will be playing the no-good Harold Meachum in the show.

The character of Meachum is described as “A ruthless corporate leader, Harold Meachum was partners with Danny Rand’s parents at the time of their deaths. What role he plays in Danny’s past and future will be revealed over the course of the series.”

In the comic book realm, Harold Meachum is the man directly responsible for the death of Rand’s father. Whether something similar plays out on the small screen, we’ll have to wait and see.

On this new addition, showrunner Scott Buck said, “I’m very excited to have David as our David Meachum. David is capable of displaying raw, visceral strength as well as extremely keen intelligence. This will add up to a character of complex depth who will keep us off balance all season.”

As well as Game of Thrones’ Jones on board as Danny Rand/Iron Fist, the series has also signed on Jessica Henwick to play Colleen Wing.

The official word on the show reads:

In Marvel’s Iron Fist, Daniel Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

Marvel’s Iron Fist will arrive on Netflix in the second half of 2017.
