In some rather cool news, David Tennant has landed a role in Marvel’s A.K.A. JESSICA JONES, where he’ll be playing the villainous Kilgrave, who is better known to comic book fans as the Purple Man.

The official description of the character reads, “An enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past, Kilgrave’s reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero’s world.”

On the addition, Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb said, “Anyone familiar with David’s work knows he brings an incredible level of dedication to any role he inhabits, a level we knew we would need from the man playing Kilgrave. Whilst know him for his roles as a hero, we can’t wait to unleash a whole new side of this talented actor.”

The Purple Man debuted back in 1964’s DAREDEVIL #4 as a Yugoslavian spy who was exposed to chemicals which turned his skin purple and gave him the power to enforce his will on others. It’s also worth noting that his full name is Zebediah Killgrave, although it appears that one of the Ls will be dropped for this incarnation of the character.

Krysten Ritter will be playing the titular role in A.K.A. JESSICA JONES, with Mike Colter to appear as Luke Cage in seven of the show’s thirteen episodes. The show will focus on Jones as she looks to rebuild her life after leaving the hero business, instead focussing on her career as a detective involved in extraordinary cases in New York City.

A.K.A. JESSICA JONES will be the second of Marvel’s Netflix-exclusive shows, debuting after the Charlie Cox-starring DAREDEVIL and being followed by LUKE CAGE, IRON FIST and then the crossover DEFENDERS mini-series.
